Jesse Barrientes: You can depending upon again, if we're talking about from this time – from the time you drop off the signed papers, from the time it gets filed. You can do it that quick. Some places require a little bit longer, maybe 30 days from the date that you filed it, but there's ways to get around that.
David Siegel: What is a person looking for in terms of costs? What can they expect for filing fees, Chicago divorce attorney's fees, on average, in your general area?
Jesse Barrientes: For an uncontested for both sides, you could probably expect somewhere $450.00, or $550.00, and I say that because—
David Siegel: In terms of court costs.
Jesse Barrientes: In terms of, right, court costs, because initially if you're just going to file a petition for dissolution, which is the complaint, then there's a charge to file that. After that, what's going to happen is the other person, once they get served, they're going to have to file their appearance which is a fee for that. All those combined, about $550.00.
David Siegel: So both sides have to pay something to the court? The person filing, and the person responding each have a cost involved?
Jesse Barrientes: Right.
David Siegel: And if the person responding wants to file a counter claim, there's an additional cost, correct?
Jesse Barrientes: That's correct, but if you file them all together, as you would do for an uncontested case, that expense goes up because you're filing them together, and they add the fee in for the appearance, along with filing a petition.
